Well my I went to go on to my laptop one evening and after it booted up into windows it completely locked up and wouldnt even turn off holding the power button down?
so I went into safe mode and run every recover tool/ HDD repair programs aswell. non of these work either?
even the system restore didnt work so I took out the sticks of memory and put the old ones in and that didnt work.
so I had to take it in to the local engineers shop to see if their was anything they could do...
To my horror my mum told me that when she took my dog back to mine while I was at work she decided to give everything a polish including my laptop.............. (NO ONE TOUCH`S MY COMPUTERS EVER!!) I didnt say a word to her except thanks.
then today I popped in to see if the guy was having any luck with it and he told me:
1st I thought it could be be a corrupt Bios so I put a new one in. no joy
then he formated my HDD and re-installed everything. No Joy
then he took my laptop too pieces and cleaned everything. No joy
now he has finally worked out that somehow (MUM) spilt Liquid on it and it went down to the Battery and fired it aswell as damaging the motherboard so its almost worth chucking away..............
the moral to this story is that I havent got the heart to tell my mum she killed my laptop even though she keeps saying to me "why cant you fix it, you fix everyone else`s. WHAT DID YOU DO TO IT"..............
WHAT DID I DO TOO IT, SHE KILLED IT AND ALL I CAN DO IS GRIND MY TEETH AND SAY NOTHING because her heart was in the right place trying to help out polishing my front room lol

The real moral of the story is: never clean anything. Dirt is our friend.

Ahhh isn't it nice when Mom does sweet stuff for us? Yup you aren't the first guy to grin & bear it, and you won't be the last. It's a real nice thing not to tell her. She'll only feel horrible, which won't make you feel good & it won't fix your poor laptop.
It just goes to show what a good guy you are Neo. If nothing else, it's good for coochie points with your lady. We women look at how a guy treats his mom & that tells us what we need to know about how he'll treat his lovers. :) (my guy is wonderful to his mom, even when she didn't deserve it)

Mums can be a pain in the ass, mine always put things on their place, and most of the time she doesn't bother to say what that place might be...

I never thought of that, I thought the dust inside mine was due to the fact I live on a volcanic island and we do sometime get dust storms, Do`h I like having a fag while tapping away aswell....

My dust would be a combo of the fact I'm not fond of dusting & I have a cat. I get little kitties worth of cat fur out of my keyboard every few weeks.

Yes smoking can give some troubles for electronics. We had a PS2 in a room above the garage of one of my friends were we used to sit nd relax while playing on the PS2 (of course that's where it was there for) and smoke some marihuana (zwino was there as well , but not here anymore these days). Anyway, they had to bring the damned thing several times back because the interior filters were completely bugged with brown drab or something, very nice... for sure if you know that's the stuff that remained after the smoke passed your lungs...

Makes me glad I don't smoke. Plus, years ago, I decided I didn't want people to smoke around me. My first apartment was in a basement & the window only opened about an inch. Gave me a great excuse not to allow anyone to smoke because I'd never be able to get the smell out. My second apartment, I had a roommate & nice big windows. But my roommate was allergic to smoke, so there was the perfect excuse. A couple of years later, I moved again, this time into a nice big apartment with lovely windows & my very own boy toy (later known as hubby ). At that point I figured, screw it, it's my place. I don't smoke, neither does my guy & if you wanna visit, you can't smoke. :) Pays to be stubborn I tell you.

I think it's in a lot of places like that, in my paretns house you can't smoke as well, if there were people that wanted to smoke they had to do it in the garden...
