Stargate SG-1 has its new big-bad for Season Ten. Actress Morena Baccarin has been cast as the adult version of Adria, Vala's daughter who was sired by the evil Ori to lead their bloody crusade in our galaxy, according to TVGuide.com's Michael Ausiello.
Baccarin is best known to science fiction fans as Inara Serra in Joss Whedon's short-lived series Firefly.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and raised in New York City, 27-year-old Baccarin studied at The Juliard School. After a few television appearances and a recurring role on Still Life, she landed the role of Inara, the sensitive and enchanting "Companion" (prostitute), on Firefly. Though the show was quickly cancelled by FOX, it lived on in sci-fi fandom and on DVD, eventually spawning last year's feature film "Serenity."
Since then Baccarin has also done voice work on Justice Leage Unlimited, and has a recurring role on The O.C.
Though her Stargate character first appears as a rapidly-growing child in the season premiere, "Flesh and Blood," it is believed that Baccarin's first appearance as the adult Adria will be in "Counterstrike," airing later this summer. The character will recur throughout the show's new season.
Season Ten of Stargate SG-1 premieres on July 14 on The SCI FI Channel in the U.S.!
This is great news. Perfect casting! Morena has the charisma and vulnerability to make Adria partly sympathetic but very hard-edged and dark underneath.
