This story is an advertorial message for the first-run syndicated series "Legend of the Seeker" (check local listings).
It has been a thousand years since a true Seeker has walked the earth. Richard Cypher, nothing more than a simple woodsman, raised by his father and older brother following the death of his mother, and trying to make a living in Hartland.
It wasn't until he met Kahlan Amnell that his life completely changed, and thus was born "Legend of the Seeker."
Based on "The Sword of Truth" novel series from author Terry Goodkind, the series was adapted for television by famed Spider-Man director Sam Raimi and stars Australian heartthrob Craig Horner as Cypher, Bridget Regan as Amnell, who can find the truth with a simple touch; and Bruce Spence as Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander, a powerful wizard that has protected Cypher throughout his life, and who also has a propensity to walk around naked.
Goodkind resisted offering the rights to his "Sword of Truth" series until he met Raimi, and was confident the director would maintain the characters and integrity of the universe he created. Originally planned as a miniseries, Raimi instead focused on resurrecting first-run syndication for dramas, a medium made popular by "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in 1987, but virtually dead by the beginning of 2005 with the influx of cable dramas and other outlets distracting viewers from syndication.
Viewers already are flocking to "Legend of the Seeker," making it an almost instant success, which is good news for ABC Studios, who had never worked on a first-run syndicated drama before. The production company invested more than $30 million into the first 22-episode season, all guaranteed, and showing in more than 90 percent of the country.
What exactly is a Seeker? According to the prophecies, a ruler from D'Hara known as Darkn Rahl would invade the Midlands, which separates his kingdom from Westland, where Cypher lives, seeking total domination. Only one man can defeat Rahl -- the Seeker -- and he sets out with Zorander to stop his advance, and move him out of Midland.
The series follows closely with the books in the first two episodes, but from the third episode on, "Legend of the Seeker" will feature stories, events and even new characters not found in the books.
