The Cylons were created by man; they rebelled, they conquered and eventually sought refuge on Earth. And that is a mythology that will not be part of the "Battlestar Galactica" prequel series, "Caprica."

The spinoff, which is now officially filming and heading toward a 2010 release, will have its own unique mythology without any connection to that of its mother series. And according to series creator Ronald D. Moore, there are no leftovers from "Battlestar Galactica" in the series.

"'Caprica' will be about how the people on the colonies developed the Cylons. And that has its own story to tell about how that came about," he told SciFi Wire. "But in terms of the larger mysteries and mythologies and hows and the whys and how everything lays out on 'Galactica,' we set out to answer as many of the questions that we could by the end of the show, and that's what we did. We didn't hold anything in reserve and say, 'Oh, well, we'll deal with this over in 'Caprica.'"

However, both shows will have something in common beyond the Centurions -- "Caprica" aims to include the same energy of "Battlestar Galactica's" first year when everything was fresh and new.

"I don't know if it's reset, but it's certainly a way of capturing the energy of the first season, of 'Well, what is the show? Let's figure out how we tell stories here. Who are these characters? What's it about? How are we going to tease the audience? Where are we going to take the show?'" Moore said. "So there's this sense of exploration, there's this sense of uncharted territory. And that's exciting, and that's scary. It's scary to have to get one of these things off the ground and hope that it's all going to work out and that people will like it, especially when you know that everyone is going to compare it to 'Battlestar.' But that's kind of the reason why we're in the business, is to take on those challenges."

"Battlestar Galactica" airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on SciFi Channel.

Meanwhile, the original movie "Battlestar Galactica: The Plan" has completed production, but a release date has yet to be confirmed.

"Caprica" is expected to premiere in 2010.

Why is everything BSG so damn far in the future??? Please someone tell me.They only losing allot of the new fans that they might get from this run. and end up losing them in the back runs.    If it me running this, I will keep the people addicted to the show.GTO

It's not that it takes ages to do so much as it takes ages for the network to finally air it.  The season we are currently watching was done ages ago.  And yet the network held on to it.  Where is the sense of that??
