Thanks in part to some tips, we've tracked down the "source" of yesterday's rumor here at the IMDB Forums. The "spoilers" were posted in response to some horrific speculation found here. Though we admit to finding some aspects of the info we posted yesterday intriguing and possible, based on the poster's lack of a track record, we have to chalk it up to complete speculation. We stand by our posting it because we did (and still do) find some of it plausible so it's not going anywhere. We promise to have some real spoilers posted some time tonight.
This info concerning all three hours of the finale has been posted to the Ragnar Anchorage Forum and elsewhere. We can't confirm the source yet, so it goes as rumor for now:

    *  Most of the crew volunteers for the suicide mission.
    * The plan is to use Galactica as bait while a small team (including Athena and Helo) infiltrate the Colony using a Heavy Raider (Galactica doesn't just jump in and start shooting - there's a good chance that Hera will be killed if Galactica and co. jump right in and just start shooting).
    * A massive fight ensues. Galactica gets the hell knocked out of it. The Cylons take the ship, and they're about to take out Adama and Tigh in CIC until they meet some unexpected resistance from Gaius Baltar. Baltar is critically wounded.
    * At the Colony, Boomer betrays Cavil and hands Hera over to Athena, though Helo is wounded (and possibly killed).
    * Boomer and the Guardians (who turn on Cavil because he's going to dissect Hera) turn off Cavil's control over the Centurians and Raiders - but Boomer dies by Cavil's hand.
    * The freed Raiders and Centurions recognize what Cavil has done to them, and, more importantly, that Anders is piloting Galactica, and so they stop attacking the humans and turn on Cavil.
    * Another massive fight ensues. Cavil and co. are destroyed, but Galactica is crippled.
    * The fleet jumps to the sight of the battle to evacuate Galactica.
    * The Raiders and Centurions feed Anders the location of a habitable world that Cavil knew of, then leave forever. Anders feeds the fleet the coordinates and everyone jumps there, though the strain of jumping the shattered Galactica kills Anders.
    * Roslin dies aboard the ruins of Galactica. Adama stays with her, alone on a dead ship. Baltar dies on the new planet...which he dubs Earth.
    * Hera reveals that Daniel survived, after a fashion, and that he's been guiding his loved ones as best he can through projection. Starbuck and Baltar are his children (and yes, eat your heart out, smooching Luke and Leia from ESB, the original Starbuck DID have sex with her brother); and Daniel plugged into Roslin after she took on Cylon blood.
    * After Apollo runs around in a lush field shooting his gun into the air like a maniac, he and Starbuck embrace.
    * Flash forward to thousands of years later. The setting: the planet the humans and Cylons settled, specifically, NYC. "All of this has happened before...."
TPR Comments: Assuming that this info is true, we're guessing that part one would end with Boomer giving Hera back to Athena, while the Cylons close in on Adama and Tigh in CIC. Part two would pick up with Baltar coming to the rescue while Boomer and the Guardians (the old Centurions) turn off the inhibitors. Based on this info, Anders, Baltar, Boomer, Helo and Roslin die, whilc it seems that Adama grieves and possibly eventually dies alone as well. The "Head" or "Inner" characters would turn out to be Daniel projecting to the Cylons, the Final Five, his children Baltar and Kara and Roslin who has Cylon blood. What this info doesn't explain is how Hera is significant if she's actually the third half-Cylon/half-human after Baltar and Kara. It also doesn't explain how exactly Daniel survived or how Kara came back from the dead. We also still have no news of Tyrol's fate since he found out that Boomer took Hera, although a Chicago Tribune interview indicated that he spent episode 418 in the brig.

TPR Comments Con't: Lastly, the info says nothing about the flashbacks, which have already been confirmed by Jamie Bamber. He said that we see Kara and Lee at their beginning, which would likely involve Zak, or his funeral at the very least. We also have location pics of a strip club where Adama and Tigh apparently watch Ellen as well as Roslin's trip to the fountain on Caprica. We can chalk Roslin's scene to a vision similar to either "Faith" or "The Hub," but that doesn't explain the Adama/Tigh/Ellen scene. Even so, we are backtracking on the probability of the finale being flashback-heavy in general. When Romo Lampkin and the captains were first listed as appearing, we assumed a flashback to Baltar's trial, but now that Lampkin has been back a couple of times and the captains are part of the new Quorum, we expect they appear in the present and not flashback. This still doesn't explain Prosna or Zak or Shona (Anders' Caprica resistance member who died when Kara blew the Cylon baby factory) being listed as appearing, but since Zak was listed for the previous episode and was nowhere to be seen, maybe someone was misleading us or they only appear in some sort of montage of existing footage.

We know that a number of dead (or one-off) characters appear and that the episode involves a space battle and numerous ground fights. Now with that preface, we want to bring up Star Trek: The Next Generation. Ron Moore co-wrote the finale for that series as well. In that case, he used three timelines (the past, the present and the future) to craft an emotional finale that managed to be a retrospective on the series by taking us back to the characters as they were at the beginning and teasing long running storylines (Picard/Crusher; Riker/Troi/Worf; Geordi's eyesight; Data's wish for emotion) in the future. Q, who had appeared in the pilot of that series, was also worked to bookend the series. We're guessing that Moore has used a similar approach in the BSG finale. There will be common story threads that originate in the miniseries that will run through the various timelines glimpsed.
Con't: We're guessing Zak's appearance is part of the resolution of Kara and Lee's relationship. Roslin was seen in hospital garb, but also at the fountain on Caprica, and we're guessing that this might be similar to the storyline from "Faith" where that dying character wanted to cross the river. Roslin has to die (doesn't she? She's been dying for the entire series) so we think hers is a vision rather than a flashback. We're guessing we'll also go back to the miniseries since Prosna appears as well as Baltar's Caprica home. Romo Lampkin as well as the captains that served as judges at Baltar's trial appear so that timeframe is likely revisited. Xeno Fenner from the labor strike returns although we're not sure why that would be revisited.
Con't: The climax involves a huge space battle which looks to involve the humans and their few Cylon allies and the other Cylons on the other. We can't be sure, but since the miniseries began with the humans versus the Cylons, we're betting that the final battle will be the same. Things deteriorate to "ground fighting" with Helo and Athena in one firefight and Baltar and (Caprica?) Six in another. Lee is also involved in a fight, although he was separated from the other main characters at that point. There are indications that some characters die. However, we hope that the series doesn't not end with the Cylons managing to finish what they started back in the miniseries with the extermination of humanity. Although, if those are the two sides fighting, the fleet doesn't stand much of a chance of survival. Lastly, the series apparently ends with Inner Six (whose true nature has already been revealed by this point) strolling through Times Square in modern day New York City. Tricia Helfer was also glimpsed on that same location in a black dress while James Callis was both in Baltar and Inner Baltar attire. So we know Inner Six is there, but what about the other three characters? Are Baltar and Six "hiding" on Earth and obvilious to their true nature as Tyrol, Tigh, Tory and Anders were on the colonies? The appearance of Inner Six is enough for us to interpret it as a nod to the cyclical story and that she's foreshadowing "our" Earth's destruction just as Caprica Six's stroll through the Caprica market was just prior to those attacks.

I was kind of hoping it went down a similar path to the OS with todays computer graphics because that would have looked cool. I remember from the original when they were watching an American motor way and Starbuck says that it looks difficult to keep in formation (he was talking about ppl driving there cars) lmao it was a nice little dry joke Cheesy

Battlestar Galactica': 'Daybreak, Part 1'

The following post discusses "Daybreak, Part 1," Friday's episode of "Battlestar Galactica."

What follows are my thoughts on the episode, which begins the show's series finale.

I hope to interview executive producer Ron Moore and other people associated with the show about the finale next week. That material will be posted after Part 2 of the finale airs on March 20.

There's more info on this site about "Battlestar Galactica":

    * Look here for interviews with Moore and with the writers and the director of "Sometimes a Great Notion," which aired Jan. 16.
    * Look here for a recent interview with actor Tahmoh Penikett, who plays Helo on "Battlestar."

OK, on to some thoughts on the first hour of "Daybreak."

So what do you think of the Pics  clap

We open with more flashbacks of the characters moving into place: Bill Adama, Saul and Ellen are in a strip club in Caprica City discussing Adama's choice on whether to leave Galactica for civilian life; Lee, Zack and Kara discussing Lee's devotion to public service and whether he should stay in the service; and Roslin, still on the fence on whether to join Mayor Adar's campaign, on a date with one of her former students.

Drunken Bill pukes on himself in an alley and then begins laughing, staring up at the stars where his beloved ship circles... and we go to present day, where Adama prepares said ship for one last battle. Chip Six tells Baltar he's guiding humanity to their end, which is disturbing even to him. Doc Cottle literally prepares Roslin for her end, giving her enough meds to survive another 48 hours. She cries and thanks him, and both Doc and I get misty. He kisses her hand because I can't.

Helo, Lee and the Old Man brief their respective crews on the plan of attack, as does Ellen for the Final Five. Turns out Anders may be able to control the Colony's hybrids, shutting down their defenses temporarily.

Adama names Hoshi admiral; he's to lead the basestar and fleet to a rendezvous point and wait for 12 hours. Lee names Romo Lampkin president, and wow do I want to watch a series where Romo and Hoshi team up for wacky misadventures. Humanity's leaders board the last Raptor off Galactica, as does Baltar... only Baltar changes his mind finally and turns the flock over to Paula. I knew the old stick had it in him! Lee tosses Baltar a gun.

Galactica jumps right alongside The Colony, and there's no hesitation before the Cylon homeworld opens fire. The old girl takes a beating before Anders is indeed able to take control of its hybrids. Once the guns stop, the Raptors and Vipers launch, the Raptors jumping from inside a pod (ruining it as Boomer did not so long ago). Full throttle ahead, and Galactica rams right into the heart of The Colony.

Lee's Assault Wing, composed of humans and red-striped Centurions, make their way from an airlock into the bowels of The Colony while the Raptors land essentially behind enemy lines and drop a small strike force. Time to rescue Hera! There's an intense battle where each team fights through shiny evil Centurions -- and the original version! Wow, it was fun to see them again.

Speaking of Hera, Boomer snaps the neck of the Number Four prepping her for surgery. The pair escape. Cavill, with another Four and a Five, finds the body, and realized he miscaluculated Boomer's maternal instinct.

Edwardjamesolmos_battlestargalactica_240 Back on the battlestar, Caprica and Baltar -- assigned to the ship's defense -- have a nice moment where she says she's proud of him, the one last emotion that stopped her from loving him. They kiss, and Chip Six says "The pieces are falling into place." Caprica and Baltar look up, shocked, to see their respective imaginary others standing above them. And yes, both can see both.

Boomer brings Hera to the Raptor strike force led by Starbuck, Helo and Boomer, saying she owed Adama a favor. (A flashback shows it's because he gave her an extra chance to become a Raptor pilot.) Athena doesn't care; once Hera's safe in Helo's arms, she blows away her morally ambiguous counterpart. Apollo's team finds them not long after, and they make their ways back to the battlestar. Too bad Cylon strike teams are already there.

Caprica and Baltar do their best, but the evil skinjobs and Centurions are relentless. Helo's shot from behind in the leg and Hera runs; her father, bleeding out fast, urges Athena to catch the girl. Roslin sees Hera in a vision and goes after her as well; the hunt is intercut perfectly with the scenes of Athena and Roslin trying to find Hera in the Opera House.

We all know, though, that it's Caprica and Baltar who find her. They do, and bring her to the "Opera House" -- the bridge, where the Final Five have installed Anders on an upper deck and so appear as they did in the dream. Cavil is there, too, under guard but not for long: He breaks free and puts a gun to Hera's head.

Here's where Baltar makes us all proud. Finally finding something to truly believe, he delivers an impassioned speech about how God or the gods are real, and that angels (the Chip Twins looking on with pride) walk among them, and that Hera can save both races. Cavil's not so convinced, but Tigh offers him resurrection technology. Cavil relents and calls off the Cylon forces.

All the Five need to do is link hands in Anders' goo (ew), which will link their memories and recover the lost tech. Tory warns them that she's done some bad, bad things, but Chief doesn't realize how bad until he sees Tory kill Cally. He breaks the link and chokes Tory to death. The Colonials and Cylons open up on each other, but the Cylons are unprepared, and finally Cavil has no recourse but to kill himself.

Outside, a dead-in-space Raptor is smacked just right by an asteroid, which causes the pilot's hand to fall just right -- after all, angels walk among us -- to launch its nukes at the defenseless Colony, destroying it. Galactica is caught in the collapse, and Adama begs Starbuck, closest to the FTL console, to jump them. Where? Anywhere. Starbuck remembers her father's music and Hera's drawing, and punches in numbers corresponding to the notes: 1123-6536-5321. Galactica jumps.

The old girl's buckling; she won't take another jump. Wherever they are, they're there to stay. And where are they? Above a familiar moon circling a lush green Earth. All y'all who said the previous "Earth" was really just Terra and not our own planet, you may now collect your money from friends and neighbors.

Twelve hours later, the rest of the fleet arrives, having been escorted by a Raptor. Hoshi meets Tigh, Cottle, Adama, Lee and Baltar on the surface, where they're watching primitive humans in full hunter-gatherer mode. Nearby, Romo wants to build a city, but Lee comes over with a different plan: The surviving 38,000 humans will spurn technology and live off the land to break the cycle of destruction. Surprisingly, everyone agrees. The Centurion rebels are set free on the basestar. As for the Colonial ships, Anders will pilot them into the sun. After one last tender moment with Kara -- when she leaves, he says "see you on the other side" -- the original series' theme plays triumphantly while the ghost fleet heads into the sun.

Kateesackhoff_battlestargalactica_240 Ellen and Saul say goodbye to Chief; he's headed to Scotland for some alone time. Roslin and Adama say goodbye as well, when she's almost completely unable to breathe. They load onto a Raptor, Adama bidding his son and unofficial daughter farewell one last time. After they take off, Starbuck says she's leaving as well, that her work is done, and Lee's surprise and sadness is evident. All he wanted was her, but he puts on a brave face and talks about exploring this new world. When he turns, Starbuck's disappeared. As if she were, you know... an angel. (Just like the original Starbuck's story ended.)

Roslin dies during the flight, and in yet one more in a string of moments that has me misty, Adama cries and puts his wedding ring on her finger. He finds a place to build their cabin and touches down.

The bulk of the survivors hike, Romo leading them, Saul and Ellen following. Helo -- hey, he didn't die! -- Hera and Athena talk about hunting. Caprica and Baltar watch, and are joined by the Chip Twins, who say their lives will be less eventful from now on. Baltar spies some land ahead that'd be good for farming, his father's legacy, and he and Six head to their future together.

Far away, Adama sits on a ridge and talks about his progress on the cabin. Nearby, Roslin's cairn listens.

Hera stares up at the sky... and we leap 150,000 years in the future, where series creator Ron Moore is reading a "National Geographic" about ancient bones found in Tunisia. (Near the Island's exit point?) Standing behind him are Chip Six and Chip Baltar in their red dress and zoot suit, respectively. They talk about the body being a young woman with a Cylon mother and human father, and I wonder whether Hera met an early end.

After a brief discussion about God (who doesn't like to be called that -- yes, the visions are Aziraphale and Crowly, apparently), Chip Six thinks our version of the human race might break the cycle of destruction. Cut to a display nearby that montages a series of increasingly more evolved robots...

Wow. Rarely have I actually been satisfied with a series finale. Usually, I want more. More story, more of the characters we love. This time, I'm happy. I'm content. Galactica, the old girl, brought the last remnants of the Colonies to peace and prosperity. She brought them home.

So say we all.

Battlestar's Edward James Olmos reveals his Plan

Edward James Olmos told SCI FI Wire that he hopes the upcoming Battlestar Galactica spinoff movie The Plan—a Cylon-centric story that he directed and stars in as William Adama—will inspire newcomers to check out the 2003 miniseries and the subsequent four years of the SCI FI Channel original series.

"The Plan is ... literally, at the beginning of every single episode [of Battlestar Galactica], you see that 'The Cylons are created by man, there are many of them, and some of them don't know that they are Cylons. And they have a plan,'" Olmos said in an interview last week in New York. "Well, this is the plan. This is what caused this to happen."

Olmos directed several episodes of Battlestar Galactica during its run, but he described calling the shots on The Plan—which will likely come out on DVD and will also air this fall—as a unique challenge. The Plan recaps the story of the destruction of the human Colonies from the point of view of the Cylons.

"It's a different formula, a different understanding in the way that the story is told," Olmos said. "It's a very, very strong piece, and I hope that people who don't know the show at all can see this and be exposed to situations, and ... learn what they mean when they go through the show. And that will completely throw them into understanding the Cylon world. So when you go back and see the episodes, if you've never seen the show before, it'll drive you to see the miniseries and episodes and to follow through [from the miniseries] through to the 78 or 79 hours [of the series]."

The two-hour series finale of Battlestar Galactica, "Daybreak, Part 2," will premiere on SCI FI today at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Touch down on Caprica with our exclusive new preview

Esai Morales, who will play Joseph Adama on SCI FI Channel's upcoming Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica, described his character's storyline in part as Rich Man, Poor Man meets The Godfather meets Brave New World. In the show, Adama butts heads not only with Cylon creator Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz), but also with his own brother, Sam (Sasha Roiz).

SCI FI Wire spoke to Morales earlier this week at SCI FI Channel's upfront presentation to advertisers and the media in New York. Caprica will premiere on SCI FI Channel in 2010, but the uncut and unrated pilot will be available on DVD (via Universal Home Entertainment) and as a digital download (via Universal Cable Productions) on April 21. Following are edited excerpts from our exclusive conversation. (Possible spoilers ahead!)

You've amassed an array of SF and horror credits that includes Jericho, Doomsday Man, The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit, The Hunger, The Outer Limits, Tales From the Crypt and more. Are you a genre fan, is it where the work has been, or is it a bit of both?

Morales: It's a combination. I've not done too much horror. I've done some stuff, but I've yet to really sink my teeth, for lack of a better pun, into somewhat that would traditionally be sci-fi/horror. Caprica is more mainstream, in a sense, because it deals with terrestrial issues before they go into outer space. So I still feel well grounded, and I'm still looking forward to doing some fun stuff. I want to play a werewolf or a vampire. It's just fun. It's fun to get out there and push the limits of your imagination.

And Caprica?

Morales: And on this show, the great thing is that we're dealing with a planet that's very much like ours, that's like our nation, and it has a lot of issues that we're dealing with. Terrorism. What it is to be a human being.

You play Joseph Adama. To your thinking, who is he and what drives him?

Morales: I think he's the moral spine [of the story]. He's somebody who came from the wrong side of the tracks, ... or the galaxy, or solar system, so to speak. They're from a planet that's more oppressed. He and his brother came from Tauron and establish their roots here, but they're still a minority. There are still ethnic tensions. So I'm a [civil liberties] lawyer who's trying to work on the right side of the tracks, and my brother is a gangster. It's like a Rich Man, Poor Man issue meets The Godfather meets Brave New World.

The goal of any series is for it to run several years. How prepared are you to play Joseph Adama now and into the foreseeable future?

Morales: As long as it takes, as long as they keep writing good material. The thing about these guys [Battlestar executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick], they know when to pull the plug, as you can see with Battlestar. They didn't squeeze it until it became bad. They kept the level of excellence there. And if that stops [on Caprica], they will pull the plug. They won't wait until someone does it for them. And I feel safe in those hands.
