In any other series, plummeting down a mine shaft and face planting a hydrogen bomb means your goose is pretty much cooked. Not on "Lost" however, as according to sources, actress Elizabeth Mitchell will return to the show for its final season next year.

As expected though, such a fate will impact the nature of her involvement with the series and the actress is expected to step down into a recurring role as opposed to the series regular status she has enjoyed for the last few years, according to Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly. A multitude of theories have already hit the web as to how Juliet will survive the ordeal and also in what form she will return.

Among the more common theories is the idea that the bomb didn't detonate at all, well ... technically. When "The Incident" came to a conclusion, it done so with a dramatic change from the norm with the usual "Lost" text on a black background inverted, possibly indicating that the survivors of Oceanic 815 succeeded in changing time and so they never arrived on the Island at all. If this is the case, Juliet could still be living among The Others oblivious to the life in Dharma-ville she once had.

Another theory suggests that Mitchell will be back in body only and that she will actually be playing the incarnation of the character being referred to as Esau (played by Titus Welliver). In the finale, the character was introduced as the nemesis of Jacob and thus far has only taken on the form of dead people meaning that Juliet could be the next facade he takes.

Whatever her involvement in the series Mitchell won't be off the screens for long. ABC has added a new series based on the 1980s science-fiction thriller "V" at midseason which features a race of aliens trying to steal the Earth's water. Contrary to previous reports though, Mitchell will be part of the regular cast and not just a guest role as originally intended.
