Not only just in time for Christmas, but Thanksgiving too.
The J.J. Abrams version of "Star Trek," already earning a quarter-billion dollars in the North American box office, will make its way to DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 17. It will be offered in a single-disc DVD set, or in a three-disc Blu-ray set. Suggested retail prices were not released by Paramount Pictures.
"Star Trek" has already earned $375 million in the worldwide box office, becoming one of the big Paramount hits of 2009, helping the studio to reach the $1 billion domestic box office mark ahead of any other studio this year. A sequel, with the same writing team that wrote this film as well as the recently released "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," are set to return, as will Abrams, at the very least in an executive producer role.
The latest "Star Trek" effectively reboots the franchise with new actors playing the iconic roles including Chris Pine as Capt. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock and Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy. Also reprising his role as a much older Spock is Leonard Nimoy, who first originated the role in 1966.
"I cannot wait for fans of Star Trek to check out the home entertainment release of the film," Abrams said in a release. "The behind-the-scenes features on the DVD -- and especially the Blu-ray -- give a wonderful look at the crazy hard work and incredible fun that went into making this movie."
Among the features available on the disk are a series of deleted scenes that include a side story involving Nero (Eric Bana) that was cut from the film, as well as the first-ever look of Abrams' version of the Klingons, yet another cut from the final feature.
Another rather odd feature also being included on the film is what is being described as an "augmented reality technology." USing a Web cam, viewers can take a three-dimensional holographic tour of the USS Enterprise right on their screen.
Well i got there Collectible Glasses already. GTO
