Out with the new, bring in the old. I’ve watched CSI since the show began and when the crime-drama added Canadian Lauren Lee Smith to the cast last season, I was less than impressed.

Smith’s character, Riley Adams, was a bit of a bore, rubbed viewers the wrong way and didn’t really share any chemistry with the rest of the cast. Thankfully, CSI producers realized that and have confirmed that Smith will not return in the show’s upcoming 10th season.

“[Smith’s] not going to be back for Season 10. It was an issue of how we were feeling the ensemble was working,” executive producer Naren Shankar told TVGuideMagazine.com.

“When we brought in the character of Riley, it got lost in the shuffle a little bit because we had lost Warrick, we had lost Sara, and then in the middle of last season Grissom finally left. I think, as a result, the character never quite found its footing in terms of the rest of the gang.”

No Riley means more airtime for Jorja Fox, whose character Sara Sidle returns to work after leaving in Season 8.

“[Sara] shows up because the team is understaffed,” revealed Shankar. “The undersheriff reaches out for a recommendation and Sara says, ‘I think that person might be me.’”

Fox will be back for at least five episodes, and will address what’s been happening with Sara and Grissom (William Petersen) and why she is able to work as a CSI. (Sara suffered from major burnout when her character was written out.)

CSI returns Sept. 24.

HORRIBLE NEWS!!!!! ranting angry  Personally Sara Sidle bored me to tears.  She was so full of herself & thought everyone should be just like her.  This may be when I finally STOP watching CSI.  Oh well, I really liked Laurence Fishburne's addition!!

Yup I like it.  All of it.  Except for the part where we had to put up with her for longer than say 3 eps.  Grissom deserved better imo.
