It was a big surprise two years ago when Leonard Nimoy said he was digging his pointed ears out of a drawer to portray Spock once again. So it's probably not too unexpected to hear that the actor is ready to finally put those ears away for good after 43 years.
At a joint appearance with former "Star Trek" original series co-star William Shatner at Dragon-Con in Atlanta, Nimoy said he liked what director J.J. Abrams did with the 2009 film, but he doesn't expect to be in any future films, including the 12th one currently in pre-production by Paramount Pictures. In fact, he said, actor Zachary Quinto did such an amazing job, he has pretty much taken ownership of the Spock character.
Shatner, who played Capt. Kirk in the original series and seven motion pictures, probably wouldn't even notice. Still a bit ired that he couldn't get into the film that has made nearly $400 million at the box office, the former "Boston Legal" star said he still has yet to see the movie, according to CNN.
For him, Shatner said he was afraid to be sitting in a movie theater with someone watching it and having them ask why he wasn't in the film.
Shatner, of course, is notorious for not paying much attention to Star Trek projects he's not involved with. Despite striking up a strong friendship with actor Patrick Stewart before the filming of "Star Trek Generations" in the early 1990s, he still hasn't watched Stewart's series, "Star Trek: The Next Generation."
Shatner and Nimoy spent much of the panel ripping on each other, showcasing the friendship they have maintained since the original series. While Nimoy has been focused on non-Hollywood pursuits, Shatner has been busy with a number of television and commercial projects, and is up for an Emmy from his work with "Boston Legal" next week.
Shatner sure can be an Ass ehum????? GTO
