So with the beginning of the new season soon (a few minutes here) I'm a bit surprise that no one wrote a single line about it.
It is true that the last season was good for the first half then become too much of fiction.

So the question is:
Are you watching it or I'm the last one at The BestTrek to still have interest in the show?

I would enjoy to have some people to discuss with me about this last 24.

So with the beginning of the new season soon (a few minutes here) I'm a bit surprise that no one wrote a single line about it.

I didn't know it had started... no one had posted links here. (The reason I use this site is that most of the shows aren't on local TV, for months, if ever.)
So I dug up the first 4 episodes and posted them.

Please feel free to post any links you have in the 24 download forum, after people have had a chance to watch it maybe they will comment.

I'll watch them eventually, but not 4 at once...
How many people has Jack tortured so far?

Well, I've caught up with the first 5 episodes.

I was a bit disappointed in the first hour, it seemed very obvious scene setting and introducing some stock characters. We had the "Good Muslim" president and his weasely looking and thus evil brother.  The blonde analyst at CTU walking around in a cocktail dress. The sinister assassin "Davros". (WTF? some kind of shoutout to Doctor Who fans?)

Then all the bad guys doing the most stupid things at the worst possible time for their plans.

The assassin goes to such lengths to get himself as a cop (Just how in God's name has he spent YEARS setting up that cover, becoming buddies with the other cop???) And he always lapses into his Boris Badenoff accent when he's doing his evil stuff. He didn't need to be a cop at all, all he had to do was plant the bomb and be set up somewhere with a line of sight to detonate it. Or set up a video camera and do it online from his bedroom in the Ukraine. And these high profile executions of his former flunkies just to get everyone on the alert???

The Evil Brother stabs a CTU agent just to let everyone know he's guilty. He could have slipped away a few minutes later, with no one the wiser. He surely has his own security guys who could quite legitimately whisk him away.

It got a bit better when Rene turns up and is even more psychotic than Jack. That was funny.

But again, the Russians are bringing their nukes to New York!! Sure, why not, it's not as if New York is a place where they worry about that kind of thing.

And the sick brother -- why wasn't he immediately on a plane to the Ukraine -- they've got Chernobyl there, they must have expertise and experience in treating radiation poisoning, and probably ready to do so no questions asked.

... So as you see, I'm losing my suspension of disbelief. Still watching, but it's certainly not a show you want to think about too deeply.

Indeed, over the years the show lost a bit of its essence. I got to say me too I'm not thinking about it as deep as previous seasons  trying to find what will happen.

It sure become less interesting but sometime a few moment that make you say Oh! they planned their move and escape the cops or CTU.
But as you say there is a LOT of details unbelievable that if not wrap in the sroty would make me lost interest.

A few years ago, while in the 4th season or so, I red a headline saying Kieffer signed to maintain the show untill a 8th season. I do realize now this was true, even with the quality is getting so so. I think what made 24 lasting so long is the action and the suspense in the plot.

a movie with 24 no way, there's already too much crapppy action films.

But Babylon that would made a good one *sight* an old serie but a good one.
do you think someone will do like BSG and do a new version of babylon maybe?

I wonder with what 24 will come for the rest of the season, maybe an other civil war like in the 7th? Or an other nuke going off like in the 6th?
better be credible at least a bit...

Does someone know if a nuclear bomb can be made with thoses rods? or could it be a dirty bomb.

Well, Redemption wasn't bad. Wasn't great either.

Fuel rods need to be refined and the fissile material separated to make an A bomb. It's a difficult and a dangerous technical process. Then you'd need to make the explosive part to set it off. It's a lot easier now than in 1945, but still not trivial and not something you could do in a few hours, as the 24 clock ticks.

They could make a dirty bomb, which just sprays radioactiove particles over a large area with a conventional explosive, but that would be silly, you could use ordinanry nuclear waste for that as effectively.

oh yeah Redemtion, I considered it more a mini-serie like the one of Galactica.

So if those rods cannot be use rapidly for a bomb what is their use and why deal it on black market.
Just trying to understand the matter of this part of the history.

thanx

The rods could be used to make bombs, for sure, but in weeks or months, with a lot of expertise and expensive equipment, not in a few hours in a warehouse in New York.

I guess the former Hassan's group have all of it at their disposal, and their bomb don't seem to be this much difficult to make.
As they plan to do it soon.

I was talking about in reality.
But on 24 everything has to happen "within the next hour".

At least Hassan knew how idiotic the "blow up New York tonight" plan was.

For a nation, the point of nuclear bombs is deterrence: to to let your enemies know they shouldn't fuck with you.

Not to actually use them against a country that has 10,000 nukes of its own that can vaporize your capital city.

A terrorist group like Al Qaeda might use them, if they could get one, as they have no cities to bomb.

Of course it's not explained why on earth the Russians were bringing the U235 to New York to sell to an Arab rather than just driving a truck across the Russian border to deliver it to his men directly.

This is a pretty good site, with recaps and reviews of episodes, as well as a running total of how many people Jack has killed or tortured.

Oddly, Jack hasn't tortured anyone yet, though he did threaten to kill a terrorist's mother.

I had decided to give up on the series after last week, but saw the reviews of this weeks' (ep 13) when Chloe asserts herself. That was magic. So I'll give it another chance...

I once saw a site like this during the first season, but it was recording every death not only those of Jack.

The revelation of Dana Walsh as a mole in CTU for the terrorists was surprising but as the serie goes she is now an undercover agent of the Russia.
I wasn't really surprised but we still don't know the WHY.

So with 3 episodes left will we learn this why and the reason of the russia?
they don't just plant agent to make this peace agreement avort, there must have an other reason.
Hope it will be good...
