'V' Ratings Steady, But Really Going Nowhere
Audiences just can't seem to connect with ABC series

ABC issued a release this week of its Tuesday ratings, boasting the outings of "Lost" and "V."

But everything is still pointing on fans having to prepare with life after "V" instead of life with "V."

The 1980s remake earned a 3.8 rating/6 share in Fast National ratings from The Nielsen Co. Tuesday, matching its series low from the week before. It finished last in the 10 p.m. timeslot behind a supercharged "Glee" on Fox, a rerun of "The Good Wife" on CBS and a new episode of "Parenthood" on ABC.

In fact, "V" only earned half the audience "Glee" did, and also lost 32 percent of its "Lost" lead-in.

That show, by the way, picked up a 5.6/9, down slightly from its previous outing, and a little more than 5 percent off its average so far this season.

There was hope that "V" might be able to return strong, but the lengthy break between November and March simply killed those chances. "V" finished November sweeps with a 5.6/9 -- the same audience that "Lost" now gets in the timeslot an hour later. That was 16 percent off its four-episode average, but still in positive territory for growth and more life.

However, "V" returned with a 4.5/8 March 30, down nearly 20 percent from Nov. 24. It never recovered, dropping another 16 percent the next week, and now seemingly comfortable in that spot.

Fans are hoping that "V" will earn a renewal, but the chances are looking grim. Last week, "V" was ABC's was seventh-ranked show out of 10, beating "FlashForward" -- also expected to be cancelled -- Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution and the now-cancelled "Ugly Betty." Only three days have been recorded so far in this week, but "V" already is ranked 10th out of 10 shows, being barely edged out by "America's Funniest Home Videos," which had a bit of an off-week in terms of audience.

Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that include both live viewing and same-day time shifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.

I belief that the 10pm time slot is a dead of any show, except Adult type. Some did well in that time slot.Like The soprano's but they had allot of problem with that also.On a cable net work HBO, I don't know of any other that made it in the 10pm time slot.  GTO
