Atheists in the UK campaign against those who declare their religion as Jedi in British 2011 Census
Atheists in the UK campaign against those who declare their religion as Jedi in British 2011 Census
After taking on the Sith for six movies, you would think the Jedi would deserve a few years off from the struggles of battle. Unfortunately, this is not the case as a new force which some who consider themselves modern day Jedi would consider as coming straight from the Dark Side, has emerged in the United Kingdom, seeking to crush the Jedi into oblivion.
This incredible saga of the Jedi started ten years ago when England took their annual census, just as the United States does. For reasons that only the people who answered the questions this way in their census forms know for sure, some citizens declared their religious faith as “Jedi”, based on the religion in the Star Wars movies.
In the years since, a Jedi church has been created. Many people in all facets of British life, public and private, have declared their Jedi faith, and sermons proclaiming the virtues of the Jedi faith have found their way on the Internet.
It was inevitable that an attack on these folks would come. What was totally unexpected was that, instead of the group that some would expect these attacks to come from, fundamentalist Christians, it is the atheists who are objecting. Many of them seem attack anyone of religious faith with twice the zeal and desire to convert than any street preacher. They seem to want to shut the Force out of the life of the citizens of Great Britain.
Now, there are two very interesting things about this anti-Jedi campaign that is being waged. The first thing is that the antagonists are not just attacking those who say they are Jedi, and out and out demanding that they declare themselves atheists, but they are also attacking the Star Wars franchise in general. In a recent post on their campaign site, yourenotajedi.com the folks in question wrote, “If your religion is of low enough importance to you that you are willing to put in a religion from 3 good sci-fi films from years ago, and 3 more recent rubbish ones, please consider ticking “No Religion” instead.” It appears to this writer that they can't decide if they are politicians or drama critics.
I say politicians in the above paragraph as this campaign is not strictly about religion, but is being waged strictly for political reasons. It seems that the atheists are desperately trying to prevent any public support of religion in general, and they are resorting to seeking to harm the rights of others for their own political gain. In the same website I quoted above, they write, “By ticking 'No Religion', you will ensure that the Government receives an unambiguous message about the number of non-religious people in the UK. Any other response may be manipulated into a response in favor of religion and publicly funded religious organizations.”
With all respect to the folks running yourenotajedi.com, if you think you can stamp out religion in the UK, I'm left wondering who is believing the more bizarre belief system. King Henry VIII tried stamping out just a part of faith in your country years ago and had mixed results at best.
Jedi in the UK haven't said a lot about this recently atheistic outcry, except for one site, jedinews.co.uk which posted the following, “Now, far be it from us to use our immense mind-control powers to encourage or discourage anyone from voting either way, but as you all know, 'The Force can be a powerful ally.' - what would you rather put on your form?”
Think about it.
( Exeron i wonder what you voted for???? I hope not Beer!!!!)
