Okay, to be fair, it's only a morsel of information, but we couldn't resist sharing it with our devoted readers
LOCATION: TCA’s
THE SKINNY: While LOST co-creator Damon Lindelof made a major presence at ABC’s Television Critics event, appearing on two separate panels throughout the day, iF Magazine couldn’t pass up a chance to ask the busy writer/producer about STAR TREK XI which he is producing with fellow LOST co-creator J.J. Abrams.
"We’re not giving out any information about TREK at all," Lindelof says with a smile but did give this company line. "J.J. and I are producing it and Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci are writing it. Paramount has announced a release date of [July 2] 2008. That’s all that’s official."
When asked if J.J. would actually direct the film, he says that is still to be determined.
"That is not confirmed," adds Lindelof who says the goal of the movie to make it accessible to all audiences.
"We are trying to write a movie that Trekkers and my mother in New Jersey will all understand and love," says Lindelof.
And having been on such a mainstream mythology driven show like LOST, has some of that rubbed off on the development of the new TREK film?
"All I’ll say is, the fundamental J.J. Abrams approach to storytelling is one I highly subscribe to which is character, character, character and we’re applying that same model on to TREK," says Lindelof. "I think fundamentally to set a movie in space and the future where crazy things are happening and they’re all aliens is not as engaging as ‘how are the people involved?’"
I hope they Hurry up and make this Movie, iam getting a bit tired of all this talking stuff.
