Daniel Dae Kim says the tone of the show will lighten slightly

When it made its six-episode debut last year, the predominant focus of "Lost" was essentially the adventures of Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) at the hands of The Others. But according to Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Jin on the show, when the series returns in February, it will once again focus on the entire cast and their various stories.

"It's been a season of transition, I think," Kim said. "Because we went from an ensemble show to one that focused on a smaller number of characters. So for a lot of us, it's meant having more free time than we originally thought. But now it's changing again, and we're getting back to the island, and we're finding a rhythm."

Part of that rhythm for the new episodes will include a little more interaction from Jin himself, who is now only beginning to master the English language (although Kim himself is bilingual). And Kim couldn’t be happier.

"It's something that the producers and I have been talking about for a little while," he said. "It just leads to different kinds of interaction with the other characters on the show. I think it would be great to have a change of pace for Jin in that way.

"Part and parcel of speaking English is becoming involved with the main action of the island. Right now, I don't think Jin and Sun are that involved with the mythology of the show. They have a kind of separate subplot that exists independent of what the other characters are doing a lot of the time. And I'm looking forward to seeing how they fit into the big picture."

However, that’s not all that’s changing on the upcoming episodes. The overall tone of the series will lighten slightly, particularly when it comes to the rocky relationship between Jun and Sun (Yunjin Kim).

"Everyone talks about the island having redemptive qualities," he said. "And I think it was redemptive for their relationship as well. As far as where their relationship goes from here, I'm curious to see myself. I'm sure a baby will change our dynamic. It generally does. We've already shot a few things where it's lighter. It's a different kind of feel to a scene with Jin in it. It's a welcome change."

The real question on everyone’s lips however is who will die next? Whether the producers wanted to or not, “Lost” has developed an impressive reputation for killing characters, and there are even some fans who watch the show specifically to see who will die next.

"Our show for some reason has taken on this mystery of who's going to die next," he said "And I'm not sure how that happened or why it's happening. And I'm hoping that it doesn't become the main focus of what the audience is looking for."

I will give them this, they will do whatever to lkeep this show going.

I'll love seeing more of Jin & Sun.  They do need to get involved more with the rest of the cast.

so it will lighten up that I guess could be good. I really didn't think that the show was that dark to begin with.

LOL  Lost is plenty dark.  And odd.  They just happen to film in a bright sunny colourful location, which makes people forget how dark it is.  Which to me is brilliant.  They don't set the mood with the lighting at all.  Just the tension in the bodies &  voices of the characters.
