CBS gives "CSI: NY" a gift each week with a lead-in program like "Criminal Minds" coming in right before it. But for "Lost," it seems ABC insists on using either reruns of its own show or poorly received sitcoms, and it's one-time top show continues to struggle in its 10 p.m. Wednesday timeslot.

"Lost" earned a 7.4 rating/12 share, according to Fast National numbers from Nielsen Media Research, a slight drop from last week's 7.6/12. It was enough to beat "Medium" on NBC, but slipped behind CSI, which earned a 9.1/15, Zap2it reported.

CSI's lead-in show, "Criminal Minds," had a 9.7/15 in the 9 p.m. hour which was well behind the "American Idol" results show on Fox, but almost triple what the ABC sitcoms "According to Jim" and "In Case of Emergency" earned, averaging a 3.5/5.

ABC finished in third overall with a 5.0/8 behind Fox (9.5/15) and CBS (8.8/14). It beat NBC, however, which had just a 4.0/6 for the night.

Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.

Hmmm seems to me that giving it a good lead in show may help.  Duh!!!  When are television execs going to learn?

i know one thing, lost is the most downloaded show in australia, with that show veronica mars following closely behind. australia has the crappiest amount of sci fi on air and we download more sci fi than any other country just about. although unfortunately apparently desperate housewives is high up on the list too. go figure, i mean just download bsg guys, its the same thing!
